The Optimus Prime Premier Edition is a Voyager Class 6" figure and will cost you $29.99 + Tax.
PUNCH "READ MORE" TO CONTINUE!

PACKAGING

The packaging for this Optimus Prime figure is similar to previous Voyager Class packaging with the see through plastic on the front of the box showing Optimus Prime in Robot Mode and the back showing both of his modes and highlight that you can change him in just "30 Steps" (notes how they don't say easy steps...) Also shown on the back of the package is everybody's favorite giant metal t-rex Grimlock.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Optimus Prime is held into his plastic shell with Hasbro's signature over-use of plastic straps but they are easily cut away with a scissor.
Picture

ROBOT MODE

Once removed from his plastic hell, Optimus Prime looks great! Hasbro did a great job with his colors and added highlights where needed. However his weapons could have used some more love, the shield coloring is lacking and even though the sword has the details in the blade, the bright orange makes it look cheap. A prefered option for the sword and shield would have been a clear plastic like we have seen on some of the Titans Returns figures. This gives the pieces a more energy look to their design instead of molded plastic.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Additionally worth noting is that the joints and connectors used limit the figures ability to be posed, with some forcing you can get a good one but it is a bit frustrating.
Picture

VEHICLE MODE

Remember those "30 Steps" I mentioned earlier? Well they should be called "30 Steps from the bowls of Cybertron. This figure is designed for ages 8 and up, yet the instructions to go from Robot Mode to Vehicle Mode are so unclear there is almost no way a child would be able to follow them. This is most likely why Hasbro has decided to start selling their Transformers line already in Robot Mode. The instructions are on Hasbro's gray papers with red colored part movement and are crammed into the tiniest pictures possible! Besides this issue the pieces have to turn in unclear ways AND clip together so Optimus can sit comfortably in Vehicle Mode. This is also impossible because some of the parts do not like to lock into place. If you follow my site often you know I deal with multiple different Transformers from Hasbro to Takara Master Piece Figures and I have to say this is the hardest figure I have ever tried to Transform (yes I am even including Takara MP - Megatron in that list). I did give this figure 3 tries on the transformation process and all 3 tries ended in me cursing. You can see how Optimus turned out below.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
The top picture is the only shot I was able to get before this figure continuously popped apart while sitting there.
If you are able by some miracle of Primus to get Optimus Prime into Vehicle Mode then you can conveniently store hsi shield on the back of his bed and his sword underneath him.
Picture

FINAL THOUGHTS

THE GOOD

THE BAD

  • Detailed Paint job
  • Unable to Pose
  • Sword & Shield Lacking Detail
  • Transformation Process Frustrating
  • Instructions Unclear
  • Unable to Display In Vehicle Mode
  • Price Point Too High
Transformers : The Last Knight Optimus Prime Premier Edition looks great in Robot Mode but is terrible when it comes to Transforming him into Vehicle Mode. The lack of clarity in the instructions make this the most frustrating thing to come from the Michael Bay franchise since he decided to kill off 90% of these Robots in Disguise. Actually they might be the lucky ones here since they will not have to be mutilated as a toy for this up coming movie.
Transformers : The Last Knight Optimus Prime Premier Edition gets :
1 OUT OF 5 PUNCHES!
