We start off differently this time around with a cut-scene away from the Rangers. Kilobyte is standing in a dark room with a large screen showing a bright red light. (Obviously, Venjix) He seems to be talking to it about the “new” strangers and their advance technology. They clearly want to use the tech, I have theory about that later on.
We left Marv, Chloe, and Jack trapped in a cell confused on what just happened. A jail cell just fell on them. (I kinda of got a cartoon vibe from it lol) Grinders then immediately circle the cell and take out their electric batons. They taser the Rangers causing them to black out. Following that they reach in and take their morphers. (Well, damn.) As our Rangers come to, the cell lowers into the floor. Now underground in the facility, they can see that its a huge factory full of worktables and prisoners forced to build weapons for Venjix’s army.
Marv and Jack start arguing because, if you remember from last episode, Vesper said to not trust Jack. They start talking about the past, Marv saying, “Protecting me? Was getting me kicked out of the time force protecting me? You ratted on me.” Jack replies, “I ratted on you but it didn’t happen the way you think.” With this Marv goes, “If Jack was mind controlled he wouldn’t have known what he was talking about. It then hits him Vesper was with Eddie. Eddie is in danger. While this is going on the cell is moving into an area with other cells (I pictured something like the children’s doors in Monster’s Inc.) They have cells to the right and left of them. On the right side is young healthy looking guy and to the left is Eddie on the cell floor not moving. Marv and the others try to break the cell bars trying to see if Eddie is still alive. As they struggled with that, the guy on their right starts talking to them. He says his name is Gem! (Awesome, another veteran ranger makes a guest appearance.) Gem and his sister were fighting grinders before they were captured. They were separated after and just not sure how much time has past, maybe months.
Vesper turns the corner towards the cells making her rounds. She says, "It nice to have everyone back together”, following that takes out her Hyper Blade Blaster and shoots Marv point blank. Gem distracts her and calls her "robot lady", but in the process makes himself a target. She takes out her Cerberus Axe and points it towards him. Marv and Gem go back and forth, and it seems to make her bored as she just walks away. Jack shouts, “Vesper what happened?” She quickly turns and shoots right above his head and walks away. The Rangers then questions Gem on his comment of “robot lady”. He simply goes, "She’s a robot isn’t that obvious?” Eddie slightly moves and confirms it as Marv was about to start arguing with Gem about it. Eddie tells them that she was infected by the virus and attacked him. Thinking, Marv asks if Eddie still had his Morpher. Gem overhears this and shouts, “You guys are Ranger Operators.” (It seems like everyone they meet knows of the Power Rangers, which is pretty funny because they usually try to keep it a secret.) Jack, shouts back, “How do you know what a Morpher is.” Gem replies, “Oh my friend helped create them, Dr. K. and I’m also a Ranger." (The Rangers right now, mind-blown lol.) While talking he tells them that the Grinders will come for them soon and put them to work to build more Grinders. Also, their Morphers are probably in the research lab. This is where it gets fun. He tells them he’s been stealing parts here and there over the last few months and built bombs and they can use them to escape. While talking about where to place the bombs, Chloe uses the phase “It’s boom time!” and Gem loves it. (The a catchphrase is born.)
Vesper rounds the corner again, this time lowering the bars to bring them to the worktables. They start moving heading to the factory section of the place they saw then they entered earlier. There’s long benches and conveyor belts where other prisoners have already started sitting and working. Grinders are patrolling, walking around. Marv starts to make a distraction so that Gem and Chloe can plant the bombs on the generators. You may start to wonder what the distraction is maybe something action packed lol, but you would be wrong, he literally throws up on her lmao. He says sorry and calls over Grinders to help clean her. With them distracted, Gem and Chloe set the voice activated bombs and shout “It’s boom time!” one time for each explosion. (Not to kind to the ears if you were using earbuds.) The generators go up in flames causing pure chaos.
Jack starts attacking Grinders, while they are still trying to process what just happened. Vesper Morphs and punches Marv. On the other side of the room the Grinders from the research lab run out after hearing the attack. With no one guarding the place, Gem and Chloe are able to walk right in. Inside they find a little gadgets and devices but also color coded boxes. Jack follows them and sees the boxes, he opens all of them and takes the Morphers not even waiting to give Gem and Chloe’s. Vesper throws Marv and he lands in front of Eddie. Not a moment later Jack gets over to them and hands Eddie his Morpher. Eddie plays around with it and sees that the Morpher has a healing charge feature which he definitely needs. Mean while Marv gets his Morpher and fights Vesper. Gem comes out with a big bomb saying they can kill Vesper but the other says that she’s our friend you can’t do that. He comes up with another device that injects their conscience into a machine. (Much more helpful.) The others morph. Eddie removes his helmet and in an emotional scene pours out his feelings towards Vesper. This is enough to stun her so they can use Gem’s device and enter her mind.
They had to place a needle at the base of their skulls literally injecting themselves into her mind. It had a sharp pain but then they entered into a dreamlike state and passed out. When they got up it was a dark area with little boxes floating around. This was Vesper’s framework. The place pulsed as if it was a heartbeat. A little dazed, they stood up and began to move around. Eddie picked up one of the boxes and saw that it was a memory. A memory from Vesper’s childhood. She was being bullied by kids but then a boy named Robert, her first friend told them to stop. Over the horizon they saw a red light coming towards them. (Venjix) So, they continued moving and found Vesper sitting on the floor watching a memory she kept on replaying. It was the moment she asked Eddie out. (I’m not crying) They tell her that she has all the power here and has to fight back, she can do it. In an emotional display she says, “I'm scared, I don’t know who I am anymore. What do I do. I’m just a danger to all of you…” Eddie replies, “You’re not, we care about you.” and takes out the ranger buds wrench. As, Venjix’s red light comes closer she’s gotta make a choice. She goes, “Lets shoot it…together.” Just then a Vortex Blaster materializes and they shoot into the “eye of the storm”. The rangers close their eyes feeling pain but when they open their eyes, they are back in the real world. Vesper is back! She says sorry for everything she’s done.
Jack afterwards heads over the the prisoners to tries to form and escape. Back in the research lab, he hears a radio with a familiar voice, its Em! Apparently, she got some back up and wants them to make a whole in the factory. While talking Gem in the background shouts, “Are you from alphabet soup?” Em replies, “How do you know that?” (I called it lol) Marv gets a little bomb and sets it off making a hole in the wall. The prisoners are running out while Em’s group are fighting Grinders outside. Gem and Eddie head to other side of the place to look for his sister Gemma. They unfortunately don’t find her but are able to help more people escape. But from the shadows, they hear something. Buzzkill, attack bot generation 13! He’s got buzz saws for arms and just about everywhere else. Gem acting quickly runs up and kicks him in-between the legs and he staggers back. Buzzkill raises a saw up above his head, like a mohawk and charges towards Gem hitting him. Eddie tries to attack him with his trident but fails. The others eventually get there, after helping Em get the prisoners in cars. Chloe attacks with her bow, but it didn’t have any effect. Buzzkill starts laughing and has this glowing green energy. He’s beginning to grow…Gem calls his Falcon Zord. Buzzsaw is pretty large now and is destroying the factory trying to attack Em and the others. The others call their Zords but their attacks aren’t effective. Gem says, “I know you guys are new at this, but you can combine your Zords into a Megazord!” Marv shouts, “We need HyperForce Megazord power!!!” The Zords start moving, combining, their seats moving backwards as they head into the cockpit. (Reminds me of Turbo) They form the Chronos HyperForce Megazord!!!
Gem flies around Buzzkill’s face distracting him with his Falcon Zord. The other rangers launch missiles into him and Buzzkill has a hard time dodging. It seems as if all his saws are jammed and he can’t move now. They position the Megazord so they can kick him into space. Just then Kilobyte comes out of the factory shouting, “What are you doing Rangers. No! I can take you down.” The Megazord goes for the kick and somehow gets Kilobyte in the kick as well sending both to space. Buzzkill is destroyed while Kilobyte drifts off into space…
Marv gets the thought that if their Zords are working maybe the ship and Alpha 55 will be working as well? (Hope so) They say their farewell to Gem, who is still going to search for his sister. (I’m sure they will find each other soon enough) As they part ways they see Em’s caravan finally heading to Corinth. Back at the time ship, they see that Alpha still isn’t back online and some controls are working. Vesper gets the idea of “plugging" herself into the ship. As she does this, the place pluses with energy and everything is back online. She started up a hyper jump into the hyper stream where they figure out their next move. Lastly, Marv and Vesper talk in private and he tells her she’s not alone, that he’s not human (dun dun dun - didn’t see that coming.) That she doesn’t have to feel like an outsider. She can be whoever she wants to be.
This was definitely a great episode, Malika put a lot of thought into it and it showed. She really captured the tone and feeling of RPM. I mentioned I had a theory way back in the first paragraph, and it was that our Rangers got to the RPM dimension before any of the events we actually see on the show. The only Rangers that we know to be alive are Gem and Gemma, and if I remember RPM correctly, they were outside Corinth for awhile surviving by themselves. Also, wasn’t Kilobyte the one who worked on the project to use hybrids to infiltrate Corinth during the season? And to make Tenaya 7, a human infiltration attack bot? Maybe it was Vesper that gave him that idea since she was an android that acted like a human and was undetected by her own team. Makes sense right? Another giveaway way when Chloe said, “It’s boom time” and Gem fell in love with the line and said he’ll use it in the future. Every time a Ranger shouted “It’s boom time”, it wasn’t too kind to my ears since I watch with earbuds lol. Though, it was great having another veteran Ranger, Mike Ginn, join our Rangers, reprising his role as Gem the Gold RPM Ranger. He brought with him the personality of Gem we all know and love. The last two points I want to mention are the Megazord and Marv’s convo at the end with Vesper. The Megazord looks awesome, love how its called "Chronos HyperForce Megazord.” Same prefix as my user name Chrono. Now with that convo between Marv and Vesper, I didn’t see that coming at all to be honest. I wonder how will this effect the team later on, keeping secrets is usually not a good thing in power rangers. But I’m currently thinking what type of alien he could be, definitely interesting.

We left the Rangers stranded outside of Corinth in a wasteland with a caravan of people. The groups leader’s Em tell them to come with, Corinth is the only safe place left on Earth. So, they agree and when exiting the warehouse they are exposed to the dry desert air that makes them dry in the mouth. Marv and Chloe walk to the group of people and start asking questions. They met a rich arrogant guy named Chas, from him we learn that its the year 2009. They decide to all get into Em's beat up pick up truck. While driving the Rangers assess their situation. Vesper brings up the idea that this is the future and somehow they already lost? Jack goes, “It doesn’t matter the when, its the where." Trying not to lose hope they decide to talk to Em some more in hopes of finding out more information so they can figure out where they are exactly. She does go on to explain her statement about “the tech falling apart” from last episode. She knows that there is a computer virus named Venjix. (Definitely a bad ass villain in the Ranger Universe.) It’s infected around 37% of the worlds computers. (I don’t think she would know this information unless she is part of the top secret military think tank, Alphabet Soup.) She goes on and mentions Grinders, (the foot soldiers) they are humanoid machines attacking cities. Continuing, she says that world leaders have been telling people to head to the city of Corinth. Just as she says that the radio flickers and they hear a woman’s voice saying, “If you can hear my voice, go now to the domed city of Corinth. It’s the only place you can be safe. But you have to make it before the defense shields are activated please hurry.” Lastly, she mentions Power Rangers with series operators, she’s never seen them but believes it to be a military experiment kind of thing. (Betting money now that she’s 100% from Alphabet Soup.) This excites Marv because that means despite everything they have seen and heard there might still be Power Rangers around. (Never give up hope.)
As Em is driving they noticed that they are passing through the outskirts of an abandoned city. Vesper and Eddie talk among themselves. Vesper goes off saying, “…You are such a good friend, just one time maybe…if you want to,..take me out on just one date after this is all over..(Omg yes lol - at this point Marv and Chloe are ease dropping and their faces are priceless.) Eddie replies, “I totally would love too.” Lastly, Vesper says, “If you tell anyone I would break a leg…your leg with the Ranger buds wretch.”
The sky is getting a bit dark maybe a storm is approaching. Em stops the truck in what looks to be what was a town square. We learn that this is whats left of Omega city. Jack asks, “Why are we stopping." Em turns and points at the sky and says, "It looks like there’s a storm coming, we should take cover. Corinth is about 2 days away.” Jack starts looking around for a place they can rest and wait out the storm. Em agrees and finds a store with its windows broken, so she walks right in. Jack, Marv, and Chloe follow her towards the back of the place. They find a big walk-in freezer, that they can definitely use. They start moving out spoiled food and other weird smelling things in order to fit the people. Meanwhile, outside Vesper and Eddie are helping the people gather up supplies then getting them inside. Including the Rangers, there are 21 people inside now. Marv and Jack decide to keep watch outside in case of anything. While watching the storm approach, they start to chat. Marv says, “I forgive you.” (He believes that Jack got him fired, mentioned in a older episode.) Jack replies, “I’m not the reason you got fired.” The storm is over head now and before any of them could continue talking there's a humming sound from the back of the store. The wind pulls the back door open and a drone shoots around, missing everyone. In fact it probably didn’t even see them. It flies away but in the mist and dirt of the storm Marv and Jack hear more machines in the distance. They draw their weapons ready for anything. (Could it be the Grinders they heard about?) Shots are fired towards them, one of them getting Marv in the arm. He tries to climb to see better and sees five Grinders heading towards their position. Hearing the blasts, Vesper runs out and sweep kicks taking one down. But now she’s surrounded by three. Chloe comes out sees Vesper in trouble and takes out her Hyper Blade spinning in a 360 motion destroying two more Grinders. Eddie is the last Ranger inside and is holding the back door shut. However, something seems to be grabbing it from outside. Quickly thinking, he opens and closes with such force it crushes the machine between the door and the wall. Marv tries to grab the last two Grinders but misses right before they enter the store. He uses the Morpher to tell Eddie that they are coming his way. Eddie comes out from the back and stealthy takes them out. But, just then he hears Em scream “Help!”. He rushes back to see that the door was ripped off of its hinges and that Em is the only one there. The Grinders were able to kidnap the civilians.
The rangers regroup to formulate a plan. Em is the only civilian that wasn’t taken. She begins to blame herself but the Rangers comfort her and say that there was nothing she could do. Instead of using her pick up truck they decide that Chas’ family RV is probably faster so Vesper hot wires it. She starts it up and begins driving. Shortly, they find tracks in the sand and decide to follow it hoping it would lead them to the civilians. They now start heading in the opposite direction of Corinth, outside Omega city. A few minutes in though, they start seeing rock formations and in the distance is a hill. As they get closer, Vesper stops not wanting to be seen by another on the opposite side of the hill. Marv and Chloe run up ahead to peak over. Chloe sees an industrial factory plant with drones circling the area. As the others get out of the RV, lights turn on around the factory and on one of the buildings there’s a tall dark shadowy figure, he has a tall collar and a long black cloak. He’s got weapons strapped on his back maybe a sword and blaster of some sort. (Wonder who that is?) He is currently screaming at two other figures Chloe can’t fully make out probably Grinders. She relays the info back to the team. It doesn’t look like the civilians are there but something is definitely going on there. They decide they are gonna try to sneak around and enter one of the smaller building. They morph, in front of Em and she’s amazed. She’s got quiet a few questions for them now. (I would too.) They say they will explain everything later and go on with their plan. Using the RV as a distraction, they launch it off the cliff as it flies in the air landing and knocking down a smoke stack. With the loud noise this makes, from the building in the area Grinders start running around all over the place. Looks like they stumbled upon a Grinder factory. (Oops, lol)
The Rangers leave Em safely by the hill as they jump into action. Jack runs up, jumps and takes out his hammer hitting the floor causing a quake knocking Grinders down. Chloe explores another area of the complex and finds the civilians chained up. Vesper shouts out that she’s going to attack the main bad guy that Chloe saw on the main building. As she is running up the stairs he jumps down near her. She can get a better look at him now, and sees he’s got slicked back hair and a monocle, plus he is a machine. (Kilobyte from RPM!) He takes out his sword and is about to slash her but Eddie slides between them blocking his attack.
Meanwhile, Marv heads towards Chloe to help the people. They attack the Grinders however, they move to fast and Chloe actually hits two civilians by accident giving them slight cuts nothing too serious. (Wow, that RPM universe for you.) Jack follows close behind and takes them out from behind.
Back to Kilobyte, he is able to grab Vesper’s shoulder and reaches towards the back of her head. She feels like her energy is fading, but then pulses back coursing through her body, it feels hot and her eyes are bright red. He says calmly, “Ah, this is interesting, a robot who thinks and acts like a human being. I can make more of these..” She is now under his control. Eddie goes, “What are you doing to her?”. Kilobyte snaps back, "She’s one of mine now”. Turning towards her he says, “Why don’t you take out your little boyfriend.” Vesper then attacks Eddie, he tries to block her axe but fails. Vesper screams internally but is unable to stop herself. She attacks Eddie again this time with her Cerberus Disk.
When Jack gets to Marv and Chloe he says he saw Vesper attacked Eddie, something is wrong! However, Vesper somehow hears this and uses her morpher to tell Marv not to trust Jack. Not knowing what to do he pulls out his blaster and aims it at Jack, shouting, “What’s going on?” Kilobyte pushes a button and a cage falls trapping the them by the civilians. Next he turns towards Eddie and takes out his double barrel blaster and fires. Eddie is really taking a beating. Vesper then tries pounding him. Eddie trying to reason with her takes out the ranger buds wretch but she grabs it trying to take it from him. Kilobyte gets tired of watching this and attacks Eddie with his sword again. The episode ends with Eddie barely breathing and two Grinders pulling his body away. Before he passes out he tries to say something, “Vesper…I..lov…”
What can I say “get in gear” cause we are in full swing for RPM. RPM being an overall dark tone is definitely showing with our rangers. When Chloe actually hits civilians when missing the Grinders, I was shocked. It just shows that with different media for Power Rangers we can explore more and darker stuff. Malika is absolutely amazing, I’m sure she planned this a long time ago. Her love for Power Rangers doesn’t go unnoticed. Also, I called it (like the second episode in) Vesper being a robot/android of some sort. The way she says things gave it away for me. Also, Kilobyte is a great villain, I’m thinking though because he said something like, “...I can make more of these…” that the Rangers are in the RPM world just as its starting so before the season even started and that's how he got the idea for making a humanoid machines to take Corinth in the series. Just a thought. Also, poor Eddie, he’s got to break through to Vesper before something else happens. I can only imagine what Malika has in store for them next episode.
