Power Rangers Movie toys have started showing up at retailed across the country and one of those big items on that movie toy list is the Movie Morpher priced at $39.99 and coming with the 5 power coins. Below I will break down the movie Morpher showing the packaging, coins, the lights & sounds functions. The Power Rangers Movie with Morph into theaters on March 24, 2017.

PUNCH the READ MORE break below to continue or just continue reading depending on how you got to this page.

PACKAGING

The Power Rangers Movie Morpher packaging is a different design that Bandai usually does not use. The Morpher itself is exposed in the store allowing people to touch and activate its lights & sounds if they pull the battery tab out. The front of the packaging also shows the Power Coins but they are protect by an additional piece of plastic, also present on the front of the box is the morphed Red Rangers. The Red Ranger is the only Ranger shown on the packaging which is slightly weird considering that all 5 Power Coins are included. The back of the package shows the Morpher, gives a close up view of the Power Coins and explained what the product can do.

MORPHER & POWER COINS

Picture
The Morpher & Power Coins are not bad, the Power Coins show each dinosaur animal when held to the light and they are tinted the colors of each Ranger. Small issue I had was that the Saber-Tooth Tiger is a bit hard to see but its not terrible. The Morpher itself has a decent weight to it and has a belt clip built in so you can walk around wearing it if you wanted to. The top of the Morpher as a lever that opens and closes the place where the Power Coin goes. I do not like how you can see the computer pieces inside the Morpher, this is where the lights and sound board is housed and it spins when you move the lever left and right but it just does not look right.

LIGHTS & SOUNDS

This is where they started to really lose me, the lights and sounds of the Movie Morpher states that they are from the movie but they are a bit obnoxious. They really are not anything great, nothing you can pick out and say "of that sounds like the original show". Before anybody yells at me yes I know this is not the original and its a reboot and they keep telling us that it will be different but the sounds do not sound like anything except noise to me. All of the Power Coins make the same noise when inserted into the Morpher as well as when you activate the morphing sounds. You can hear a variety of these sounds in the videos below. The second issue I have with the Movie Morpher was that it should have had a way to keep the Power Coin lit up if you wanted to, it lights for a few seconds and flashes then its dark and you can not really see what it is.

FINAL THOUGHTS

THE GOOD

  • Movie Morpher
  • Come With 5 Power Coins
  • Looks Accurate
  • Lights & Sounds
  • Decent Weight
  • Belt Clip
  • Power Coins Look Good

THE BAD

  • The Sounds Seem Like Noise
  • Price Point Seems A Bit High
  • Sounds Not Specific To Each Coin
When I first found this product on the shelf I was really excited, I couldn't wait to get it home and review it. Then I started messing around with it and my expectations slowly started to diminish, I expected more from the Lights & Sounds which is a big deal with an expensive product like this. If the inserted Power Coins made different noises I might have been a bit more pleased, but the sounds the Movie Morpher makes just seem like screeching at times and not actual sounds. Hopefully once the movie is released these noises make more sense but until then I am not happy with this product. However just because I am unhappy with a product does not mean it is not good, I still weigh out the good and bad and see where it falls. The Movie Morpher is a kids toy and it should be judged as a kids toy not a high end collectible, it is good for a kids toy and seems to be made fairly durable. If you see one on the shelf and plan on purchasing it because it is the Movie Morpher then I say go for it but just know what you are spending $39.99 on.  It really does not have the "WOW" factor I was looking for.
The Power Rangers Movie Morpher is getting 3 OUT OF 5 PUNCHES.
