The Power Rangers Movie is set to release in theaters on March 24th 2017 and we have finally started to see some of the movie toys showing up in stores. The T-Rex Zord is piloted by the Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott who is being played by actor Dacre Montgomery. The T-Rex Zord for the new movie is quite different than the original T-Rex and is showing how the franchise is trying to pull away from it Super Sentai roots. To find out more about the T-Rex Battle Zord figure PUNCH the "READ MORE" break below!

PACKAGING

Picture
The packaging of the T-Rex Battle Zord is simplistic, the Zord is exposed and the cannon with missiles are sealed behind a plastic casing, the Red Ranger figure is sealed behind plastic casing as well but can be ripped out of the package with ease. The back of the packaging gives us a few brief statements about the T-Rex Zord and also shows us the additional Zords that will be released to form the Megazord.

T-REX MODE

This is a big Zord when you compare it to other Zord toys in the Power Rangers series. That being said if you plan n leaving this Zord in T-Rex mode make sure you have enough room for it on the shelf, you can see in the photos below I was having some issuing fitting it into the photo box. The right leg of the Zord is not attached to the T-Rex because of how the packaging was designed so you will need to cut the straps away and attach the leg with its click joint to the torso of the T-Rex. This was actually a bit annoying and required some force to get the leg to click it, this could potentially cause an issue down the road when you try to form Megazord mode which I will explain further down in this post. The leg attachment issue aside the Zord is sturdy the gun/cannon attaches easily and says 3 different phrases when you push the button (Video Below), the voice used is the voice of Dacre Montgomery who is playing the Red Ranger so that is a cool added feature instead of them just using stock sounds of explosions and lasers. The bottom of the Zord looks incomplete, the Megazord head is just attached in there and there is no covering over it so you can see it easily. This is slightly annoying considering how big of a figure this is, I am sure they could have figured out a way to hide the Megazord head piece. The Arms of the T-Rex Zord are actually missile launcher that just need to be pushed from the back tip to fire.

RED RANGER FIGURE

The Red Ranger figure that is included with the T-Rex Zord is lacking detail but overall not bad for what it is, it can use some slight detailing but at least the colored the helmet visor and chest diamond for us. They even gave a place for the figure to sit so its not lost, inside the T-Rex Zords mouth which I am going to assume is the cockpit of this Zord.

MEGAZORD MODE

This is where my previous concern about the joints comes into play. To turn the T-Rex Zord into the chest and arms of the Megazord you need to take everything apart, all of the attached pieces need to be disconnected and some of them do not want to be released with out a decent amount of force. This concerned me because I am positive that after a few times of dismantling the T-Rex Zord and putting him back together those little black peg joints will begin to break down and cause the connections to become very loose. That aside the instructions are very clear and easy to follow the only thing I will point out is that the T-Rex legs can be bent in either direction and this is because the left leg become the right arm and the right leg becomes the left arm. An additional issue with the T-Rex Zord is that they did not find a place to hide the head of the Zord once it is transformed, it just attaches to the back of the Zord like a growth. Lastly the arms of the T-Rex Zord have no place to go, I went over the instructions multiple times and I did not see them anywhere, this could cause a potential lost parts problem if you are no careful.

FINAL THOUGHTS

THE GOOD

  • Very Large Zord
  • Fairly Good Details
  • Movie Sounds & Phrases
  • Comes With Mini Ranger
  • Easy Transformation Instructions
  • Decent Price Point

THE BAD

  • Joint Detachment
  • No Place To Put Extra Parts
  • Head Piece Not Concealed

Overall the Power Rangers Movie T-Rex Battle Zord is a good purchase and is going to be something you want to grab while its available. The price point is $34.99 but is most likely the largest Zord in the set based on the photos shown on the box.
